- ‘Belle of Woking’ is a deciduous, hardy clematis with flushed mauve, 4-inch flowers that age to a silvery lilac or pale gray.
- The plant grows about 7 feet tall and produces blooms that resemble multipetaled antique roses, with bright green foliage on coiling leafstalks.
- Cultivate in loamy, well-drained, yet moisture-retentive soil, never soggy, and provide good air circulation. Clematis requires full sun to bloom best, but roots must be kept cool.
- Regular feeding during the growing season is necessary, and dead or weak stems should be removed in late spring. Flowering shoots should also be pruned back a bit to encourage rebloom in fall.
- If moving a plant is necessary, do so in early spring, lifting carefully and keeping the root-ball intact. ‘Belle of Woking’ is a challenging clematis to grow, but worth the effort. Carefully tie in nodding stems for added support during strong winds.
